Green Dot Cards
When you’re thinking about getting a prepaid credit card in the United States, you can seriously consider a MasterCard or Visa issued by Green Dot Corporation. Green Dot credit cards are available at nearly 50,000 retail stores, including CVS, RadioShack, Kmart, 7-Eleven and Wal-Mart. As my Green Dot credit card may be used like a normal debit or credit card I can go shopping to any store without worrying that I have no cash on me. There is however a small difference between Green Dot prepaid cards and normal credit card, namely, prepaid cards are not backed by a checking account or line of credit. Prepaid cards are very convenient, allowing users to make purchases, which are deducted from the balance stored on the card. The user doesn’t have to carry cash when going shopping. If the funds on the card are insufficient the user can add more money to the card by paying cash at a point of sale.
Green Dot debit cards don’t come with user’s name on it. As such they are only temporary cards that are not re-loadable. If the user wants to receive a personalized card, this usually takes about a week and it is free of cost. Personalized cards are re-loadable.
